Today is the day when I finally get to realize a key goal here at Accidental Hedonist. Namely, the idea over converting this site from my own personal food blog, and turning it into something more community oriented.
There are plenty of reasons for this shift, but all of them have the same basic premise, namely that individuals, and not institutions, have a better idea of what’s good and tasty. When I say “institutions”, I mean everything from Fast Food Corporations and the board of directors of Kraft Foods, to the television producers of The Food Network and the editorial boards of Condé Nast. While each of these institutions bring something to the world of food, in the end, it comes down to each individual on what they consume.
That’s what I love about food blogs – they are uncensored, unfiltered accounts of people’s interactions with food. Whether it was a simple recipe that they wanted to pass on to their readers, to prose that exalted the simple cheese sandwich, food blogs are the most honest of the food media. My goal here at Accidental Hedonist is to give people a tool to further that honesty.
So today, I announce the opening of our food diaries. Anyone can sign up an account on this here site, and have the opportunity to get read by as many as 12,000 people per day.
Over the course of the next few months additional software will be installed upon this site that will further the goal of creating a strong, vibrant, and food literate community.
This is not to say that there won’t be rules and restrictions in the creation of this community, because there will be. Anarchy simply does not work in these environments. But I hope to let these rules to develop organically. And to be honest, I’d rather worry about rules tomorrow. Today is for this announcement.
If you are interested in developing a stronger sense of a food community on this site, feel free to sign up for your own Accidental Hedonist account. This account will create your own food diary in which you can start posting today. To access your account, there is an administration link to the left here.
As always, if you have any questions, you can e-mail me at Kate AT accidentalhedonist DOT com.
