While at the local Target the other day, I happened upon a simple Ice Cream maker for only 17 dollars. My budget is a little strained this month, but I figured what the hey.
It turns out to be the best investment I have made in a while. There is a definitive quality jump between home made ice cream vs. Store bought (and I’m including the Ben & Jerry’s and Breyer’s brands in the comparison). After the ice cream melts in your mouth, and you can taste each individual ingredient, including the cream and the sugar, you swear you will never go back to store bought….at least that’ws the vow I made.
My first recipe came out perfect, and I didn’t choose a simple vanilla, I went for something a little more exotic. It came out very well.
- 4 cups whipping cream
- 4 cups half and half
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 1/2 cups chopped black walnuts
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Combine all ingredients into bowl. Cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Pour into Ice cream machine and follow specific machine instructions. Freeze overnight.
