Can there be anything more food porn than a dish named Sin? I think not. Decadently soft sweet potato french toast, cooked to perfection, with just a bit of powdered sugar on top. Please, sir, may I have some more?
This heavenly dish brought me back to Northeast Portland’s Tin Shed Cafe last week. Located in the Alberta district (What can I say? I like the Alberta district), the Tin Shed is a local favorite. It’s been a while since I’ve lived in the area, so it was a treat to return for one of my old breakfast favorites. Since my last visit, the little cafe has expanded their seating area to include a marvelous outdoor covered patio, complete with a beautiful stone fireplace as well.
I volunteered for the community table just inside the restaurant itself. Complete with a dozen or so seats, I sat comfortably between couples and ordered my standard – the plate of Everything Nice. As their website would dictate, the breakfast of champions includes a piece of their heavenly home-baked sweet potato french toast (the aforementioned ‘Sin’), fruit, scrambled eggs, a gorgeous potato cake, and a bit of meat. Once it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to taste cinnamon swirls in the sweet potato bread, and even more thrilled to see that the dish had stayed true to form, remaining one of the best breakfasts in town.
Perfect for late sleepers (breakfast is served until 3p every day) the Tin Shed Cafe also offers self-serve coffee and water, happy hour, and a dog menu.
