I’m not exactly sure I can get my head around this, so let me see if I can get this straight.
They are trying to create a more realistic “fake” beef and chicken meat. They are doing this by using a “proprietary blend of vegetable and meat protein”.
The addition of meat protein immediately removes this as a product for the veg-head crowd, leaving the product to be sold to us omnivores. As an avowed omnivore, I look at this product and think “I could have this amalgamation of soy and meat protein…or…I could have the real thing.”
Guess which choice I’m making.
I get that they’re trying to provide a product with less calories, less fat and less cholesterol. But the idea of it (not to mention the marketing pitch within the press release) strikes me as ludricrous.
