Let me state, for the record, that I love pumpkin ice cream. But I do admit it’s one of those “Only once or twice a year” kind of tastes. It’s a flavor that one can easily overdo, thus removing any magic that surrounds it.
That being said, I’m thinking about doing pumpkin ice cream a little different this year. But I’m a little hesitant, as I don’t wish to make my only pumpkin ice cream this year to be either too lame or too horrible, thus removing any of the annual joy.
I sat down with Tara last night to discuss this dilemma. Here are the ideas we came up with.
Pumpkin and …
- Maple Syrup
- Salted Caramel
- Ginger and Coconut
- Cinnamon Whiskey Liqueur
- Cayenne Pepper
Some of those pairings are simply too rich in my opinion. Others will require a fair amount of restraint (yes, that’s the cayenne I’m talking about). Personally I’m leaning towards Pumpkin, Ginger, and Coconut Ice Cream, but I’m not sold on the idea of yet.
So I put this to you, denizens of food world – What flavor (aside from the classic Pumpkin Pie Spices) could be combined with pumpkin to get a really nice ice cream? I’m willing to consider all suggestions.
