Site News, Monthly Themes and Food Diaries

I wanted to let you know of the next big update for Accidental Hedonist. Within the next few weeks, we’re going (and when I say we, I mean…um…Tara) to add a forum to this here site. The purpose is to foster even greater communication between the regular visitors, and allow them to discuss food topics covered on the front page, food diaries, and elsewhere in greater detail. We’re currently ironing out a few database issues, trying to encourage the blog software and the forum software to play nicely together, mostly in regard to logins and such.

Meanwhile, I cannot communicate effectively how pleased I am at the response to the food diaries. The enthusiasm for them has surpassed my own expectations.

To keep the momentum of the food diaries going, I’m going to have two give-away promotions for the month of February.

The first promotion is as follows: Anyone who publishes a food related article to a food diary in the month of February (regardless of whether it’s promoted to the front page or not) will have the chance to win two of Julia Child’s classic Cookbooks: Mastering the Art of French Cooking, both Volume One and Volume Two.

The Second Promotion Takes a little explaining. One of the many long term goals I have for this site is to get people talking about a specific topic of food during any given month…sort of a monthly “theme” if you will. The first of these monthly themes will be the topic of “Pizza” (expanding upon the wonderful post by Vanessa last week).

For those of you writing food diaries, if you write about Pizza in any way, be it a recipe, the history of pizza, an essay on your quest for the perfect crust, whatever…you will be entered into a separate raffle. At the end of the month, a name will be picked at random, with the winner receiving a copy of the book American Pie: My Search for the Perfect Pizza, by Peter Reinhart.

If you have yet to sign up for a food diary, and wish to participate in what’s been going on, feel free to sign up here.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to e-mail me at Kate AT accidentalhedonist DOT com.
