I talked recently about Mission Statements, and promised to craft one for the site. The goal is to have a starting point on where I believe Accidental Hedonist fits both in my own life, as well as in the blogosphere as a whole. The problem is that I’ve been playing with a few ideas in my mind, but none of them seemed to work.
Never one to back down from either a challenge I’ve made to myself or a promise I made to others, I’m going to see if I can write a mission statement off the cuff.
Accidental Hedonist …
…will be a place where the readers and writers can explore interesting topics in depth, with the intention of finding a level of comprehension on said topics that goes beyond the rudimentary.
…will be a place where the readers can be assured that the writers have demonstrated some measure of rigor in researching any given topic.
…will be a place where readers and writers alike shall not be afraid of proclaiming ignorance on any given topic.
…will be a place where readers may feel free add to the discussion on any given topic, and help create a respectful dialogue and community.
…will be a place where the golden and silver rules shall be the default order of business.
…will be a place where curiosity, introspection, intellectual rigor, and a sense of humor shall be encouraged.
Above all, Accidental Hedonist shall be a place where fun and inquisitiveness go hand in hand, with the intent on enriching all participant’s lives in some measure.
I acknowledge that this isn’t perfect, but it’s a start. And if I find that something doesn’t work, I will adjust it, keeping you, the reader, involved in such decisions.
