U.S. to Import Chicken from China

Is this really a good idea?

Government authorities are working on a proposal to allow chickens raised, slaughtered, and cooked in China to be sold in the United States, and under current regulations, store labels do not have to indicate the origin of the poultry.

Seriously….we (that is, America) raises 9 billion chickens per year, and market demand is such that we have to import more? And then, to top it off, we want to import from a country whose recent track record of food safety oversight is such that it makes Conagra’s track record in food safety seem exemplary by comparison?

Something doesn’t smell right.
