Waldorf Salad

The famous Salad from the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, it was created in the 1896 not by a chef but by the maître d’hôtel Oscar Tschirky. Score one for the gang up front.

  • 3 medium Red Delicious Apples, sliced and cubed into 1/2 inch chunks (give or take…and do not, for the love of all that is holy, peel your apples)
  • 1 teaspoon lemonjuice
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup celery (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream, whipped
  • 1/4 cup maynonnaise

Place apples, lemonjuice, sugar and salt in a mixing bowl. Fold together. Add celery, walnuts and raisins.

Take the whipping cream and pour in a bowl. Using a hand mixer, whip into a solid consitency. Add mayonnaise, and fold in to each other. Add mayo/cream mixture to apples, and fold together carefully.
